Wade’s grocery store in Christiansburg closed its doors in 2010.

A short time later, local residents heard rumors a local mental health provider had bought the site with plans to expand its services. Since then, the walls and roof of the long-term business were taken down, and the skeletal remains of the building sat for the past three years on the backside of the site.

This past week, a for sale sign was placed at the store’s historical sign, which still stands at 510 Roanoke St.

The 3.8 acres with a concrete pad and asphalt lot is listed for $2 million.

At one time, Wades operated seven supermarkets and 13 convenience stores. A Pulaski location closed in 1998, and the rest slowly followed. A Radford site was renovated to house one of the mental health sites. The Christiansburg store, which was the original location, was in business for nearly 70 years.
