BLACKSBURG – On April 25, the YMCA at Virginia Tech will celebrate the 34th anniversary of Healthy Kids Day, a national YMCA initiative designed to inspire healthy habits and support the well‑being of children and families.
Healthy Kids Day is a free “Summer Kick‑Off” event packed with activities that encourage kids to stay active, engaged, and connected as school ends and summer begins. Families can enjoy a free one‑mile fun run, interactive games, enrichment activities, hands‑on demonstrations, and a strong emphasis on healthy family life. The YMCA Food Truck will also be on site, offering tasty options for event‑goers.
In addition to the day’s festivities, the event will promote local summer programs and activities for children, helping families discover opportunities that keep kids moving, learning, and having fun throughout the summer months.
The celebration will take place at the YMCA Lancaster House, located on Washington Street in Blacksburg, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Special guests include Ringo the Patrol Pony, therapy dogs, and Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion, sure to delight children and fans of all ages. A variety of student organizations, local nonprofits, and area businesses will host interactive family booths throughout the event.
The YMCA at Virginia Tech thanks its local sponsor, Virginia Techniques, for supporting Healthy Kids Day® and helping make this community‑wide celebration possible.
Healthy Kids Day is free and open to the public, and families of all ages are encouraged to attend.
