Weekly reports: Blacksburg boys now 15-0

The Blacksburg boys’ soccer team moved to 15-0 this past week with a 7-0 win over Cave Spring. Goals came from Andrew Linden, Keanan Kopp, Brendan Osebre, Peyton Cruise, Soren Anderson, Esteban Carvajal (2),

Nathan Pratt led the goal room with a save, while Landon Daily added another one.

Assists were Andrew Linden, Mateja Grove, Keanan Kopp, Luca Ripepi, Esteban Carvajal, Craig Huxtable.

Auburn downs Fort in baseball

Auburn and Ft. Chiswell hooked up in an absolute battle with the Eagles coming out on top 8-5 and creating a three-way tie for first in the Mt. Empire District.

Both teams got on the board in the first with Ft. Chiswell collecting three hits in the inning to take a 1-0 lead. Auburn answered with three in the bottom of the first. Brody Hensel doubled in a run and scored on a Colin Roark double.

A third run scored on an error to make it 3-1 after 1. In the bottom of the second the Eagles added 3 more on a 2 out, 2 run triple by Hensel followed by a run scoring single by Matthew Altizer with 2 strikes to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead.

The resilient Pioneers answered with 3 runs in the top of the 3rd on a bases clearing double by Spencer Moser to make the score 6-4.

Neither team scored in the fourth but the Eagles added one in the fifth on a single by Alex Young to score Altizer and make it 7-4. In the top of the sixth with one out, Ft. Chiswell put two runners on to end the evening on the mound for Eagle starter Altizer, who went 5 1/3 allowing 9 hits, 5 runs while walking 3 and striking out 13 to pick up the win.

Hensel pitched the final 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 hit and picking up 3 strikeouts to pick up the save.

With the score 7-5 the Eagles added 1 more in the 6th when Hensel tripled with 2 outs and scored on a single by Altizer to make the final 8-5.

On senior night Altizer and Hensel had three hits each with Hensel having three RBI and Altizer two and combining on the mound to get the win. Colin Roark also added three hits and an RBI.

Auburn rolls in softball

Ava Marrs drove in four runs on two hits to lead Auburn. In the fourth inning, Marrs homered to right field, scoring three runs. The Eagles opened the scoring in the first after Hope Wilson singled, scoring one run.
Auburn scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kaylen Mitcham tripled, scoring one run, Leah Wimmer doubled, scoring one run, Soph Hambrick singled, scoring one run, Marrs grounded out, scoring one run, and Kaylee Ramrattan doubled, scoring one run.
Skyler Hodges earned the win for Auburn, allowing four hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out four and walking three. Ally Hall took the loss for Fort Chiswell Varsity Pioneers. The starter went four innings, surrendering nine runs on 10 hits, striking out none and walking three.
Auburn piled up 11 hits in the game. Marrs and Hambrick each collected two hits.

Ramrattan leads Auburn blowout

Kaylee Ramrattan hit three home runs and drove in five as Auburn defeated Bland 22-0. Ramrattan homered in the second, fifth, and third innings.
Auburn jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Hope Wilson doubled, scoring one run, Kaylen Mitcham tripled, scoring one run, Leah Wimmer doubled, scoring one run, and Sophia Hambrick homered to center field, scoring two runs.
Auburn added eight more runs in the top of the second inning on seven hits. An error scored one run, Mitcham singled, scoring one run, Wimmer hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Faith Wilson doubled, scoring one run, Ava Marrs homered to right field, scoring two runs, and Ramrattan homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Auburn added five more runs in the top of the third inning on five hits. An error scored one run, Katherine Hall singled, scoring one run, Johnnie Gaynor doubled, scoring two runs, and Ramrattan hit a solo home run to center field.
Auburn scored two runs in the top of the fifth on a home run to left field by Ramrattan.
Skyler Hodges earned the win, giving up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out six and walking none. Wilson pitched three innings in relief for Auburn Varsity Eagles. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs while, striking out eight and walking none. #7 took the loss for Bland. The starter went five innings, giving up 22 runs (11 earned) on 23 hits, striking out none and walking one.
Auburn piled up 23 hits in the game. Mitcham, Ramrattan, and Hambrick each collected four hits for Auburn Varsity Eagles. Marrs, Wilson, and Gaynor each collected multiple hits.

Christiansburg rolls in softball win

Christiansburg won big over Salem 12-1 on Friday. Salem were the first to get on the board in the first when Evie Van Liew doubled, scoring one run.

Christiansburg captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the third when Aubrey Davis doubled, scoring two runs, and a wild pitch scored one run. Christiansburg scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ali Taylor singled, scoring one run, Sophia Russell singled, scoring two runs, and Reagan Smith singled, scoring two runs.

Davis earned the win, allowing four hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking one.

Christiansburg win over Floyd

Kaedyn St Clair collected three hits in four at bats, as the Christiansburg softball team defeated Floyd County Varsity Lady Buffs 13-3. St Clair hit a home run to right field in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

Kylie Beasley, Abby Neel, and Lauren Massey at the bottom the lineup combined for five of the team’s 10 hits in their victory. They scored six runs and drove in one.

Christiansburg jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after Neel tripled, scoring one run, Massey doubled, scoring one run, and St Clair homered to right field, scoring two runs.

The team would then score five runs on one hit in the top of the sixth inning. Sophia Russell drew a walk, scoring one run, Reagan Smith grounded out, scoring two runs, a dropped third strike scored one run, and Alliyah Akers grounded out, scoring one run.

Floyd County scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to center field by Lilly Mier-Gillispie.

 

Aubrey Davis earned the win, giving up six hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out one and walking one.
