CHRISTIANSBURG – Christiansburg High School DECA members attended the annual DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) that took place in Atlanta, GA, on April 25-28. The #DECAICDC spotlights DECA’s top student performers from nearly all 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Germany. It also highlights innovative business partnerships that empower these emerging leaders and entrepreneurs to tackle the challenges of an ever evolving and increasingly complex economic landscape.

Students Brayden Grant and Lucas Sawyers from Christiansburg High School DECA attended ICDC to participate in the Financial Services Team Decision Making (FTDM) event.

“My favorite part of ICDC was being around competitive, like-minded individuals. I also enjoyed competing in FTDM, as I learned many key financial ideas from studying that I will carry on into college,” said Sawyers.

“It is a tremendous honor for our students to reach the international level, and we are incredibly proud of Brayden and Lucas for their dedication,” said Kamren Harris-Gilliam, CHS DECA Advisor. “Representing Christiansburg High School on a global stage is a huge milestone that proves our students are ready to lead in today’s competitive business world.”

This year’s #DECAICDC featured over 26,000 members, advisors, and business professionals in attendance, making it the largest conference in DECA’s history. In addition to career-based competition, DECA members engaged in leadership academies and networking opportunities with over 85 internationally recognized businesses.

During the school year, more than 250,000 of DECA’s 315,000 student members participate in the organization’s competitive events program, competing for local and regional titles. The competitions are designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development. The top state and provincial winners put their talents to the test during the program’s final round of competition in Atlanta.
