Father’s Day a time to celebrate dads – and family sticking together

Well, Father’s Day is coming up soon. It’s always between Mother’s Day and the 4th of July. The other two are certainly bigger holidays. Mothers get flowers, candy and taken out to eat, and for the Fourth everyone goes to picnics, fireworks, parades and pool parties.

On Father’s Day no one gets that excited, and there could be good reason for it, as mothers are usually the work horses of the family. But, in most cases dads are part of the game, and leaders of what goes on in the family. Living in this world with a family can be difficult at times. Particularly in today’s society as trying to please everyone can be tricky.

Father’s Day in the United States has been the third Sunday in June since 1910, when it was originated by Sonora Dodd. Today it is celebrated in 111 countries around the world.

Some countries in Europe have been doing something for Dad since 1508. In Russia it is called “Fatherland Day,” or “Man’s Day.” Putin probably thought that up. Russia’s special day is February 23.

Sonora and five brothers were raised by their father. Sonora felt it would be nice for someone to say thanks to their father for raising the six of them by himself; Sonora felt the world was full of men who did much for their families and they should all get some recognition. Sonora felt it would be nice if someone said and did something for Dad. A lot of other people felt the same way.

Today, the best way to recognize dad is for the family to work and stick together. We all need to bend a little. No one can have their way all the time. Everyone needs to compromise. No matter how old or young you are, it is what’s best for the family.

Each member has their own ideas of how to do things. Sometimes your way is not the best

Thought for the day:

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, or touched, they must be felt with the heart.” – Helen Keller
