The New River Valley Garden Tour will take place Saturday, July 11, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Montgomery Floyd Friends of the Library sponsors this annual tour as a fundraiser for the local libraries. Held rain or shine, the self-guided tour features six private gardens all located in the Miller-Southside/Airport Acres area of Blacksburg. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Floyd (Jesse Peterman) and Shawsville (Meadowbrook) libraries and online. They will also be sold at each garden on the day of the tour.
A program with detailed information and map is included with your tickets. Because of the proximity of the gardens to each other it is encouraged for tourists to consider biking, walking or busing to the gardens if you are able. Additional parking will be available at Margaret Beeks Elementary, 709 Airport Road.
A New River Valley Master Gardener will be at each garden, welcoming tourists, answering questions and highlighting garden features representing sustainable gardening practices. Stop by the Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Plant Clinic tent stationed at the Coble garden to pick up a soil test kit, regional planting chart, free seeds and hear more about the Master Gardener Program. While there, you can view the rain barrel painted by a local artist that will be raffled for a $10 donation. Visit the Kirchgessner garden and learn about the Virginia Native Plant Society at their table. Local musicians and plein air artists add to the beauty and ambiance of the gardens on the tour. The art from the 2025 tour is currently on display at the Blacksburg Library.
Bring your camera and comfortable walking shoes. Unfortunately, the tour is not ADA accessible.
