Democratic candidate Tim Brown will face Republican Robert Page in the November General Election for sheriff in Montgomery County.
Brown won a primary election this past week with two other opponents. When votes were certified on Friday, Ed Hertling gained some additional votes, but Consider clarifying as: ‘Brown’s 2,570 votes to Hertling’s 2,378’. The other Democratic candidate, Greg Warden, finished third with 188 votes.
Brown will now square off with the Republican choice in Page, who won a Firehouse Primary vote this past month.
Following the primary, Brown thanked his supporters in a social media post.
“To everyone who took time out of your busy lives to vote for me, I am truly grateful,” Brown said. “I know that voting takes time and effort, and the fact that you chose to put your trust in me means more than I can adequately express. I am also incredibly thankful for every phone call, text message, email, private message, word of encouragement, and handshake along the way. Every one of them has meant something to me. There have been so many moments when your support lifted my spirits and reminded me why I decided to run for sheriff in the first place.”
“I am especially grateful for my family, for the friendships this journey has strengthened, and for the people who have stood beside me over the years,” he continued. “I also want to thank Ed Hertling and Greg Warden. These guys are truly top-notch, and their friendship means a great deal to me. I have a tremendous amount of respect for both of them, not only as friends, but for the campaigns they ran and the way they conducted themselves throughout this process. They worked hard, represented themselves well, and gave this community a choice, and I respect both of them tremendously for that. I am proud to call them friends, and I am grateful for the many years of friendship we share.”
Brown is a lieutenant with the Christiansburg Police Department and has spent more than 26 years in local law enforcement, serving entirely with CPD. During his tenure, he has served as patrol lieutenant, Special Operations lieutenant, accreditation manager and lieutenant of investigations.
He holds a bachelor of science degree in Criminal Justice from Radford University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Review: use consistent terminology; if it is a special election, update the earlier reference accordingly was announced after Montgomery County Sheriff Hank Partin announced his retirement. Whoever wins in November will have to run again next year for a four-year term. This year’s election is to fill the remaining one year of Partin’s current term.
