For 20 years, it has been a tradition at The Villas at Peppers Ferry Community in Christiansburg to assist with the needs of the Montgomery County Department of Social Services (MCDSS).
Traditionally that includes Thanksgiving baskets and school supplies. Recently, interested residents donated gift cards totaling $2,145 for school supplies for children with needs. Amy Cox of the Montgomery County Department of Social Services reports that the staff uses the cards to do the shopping.
They get exactly what each client needs, be that a calculator or crayons. She also expressed appreciation for the timing, as they were able to take advantage of the recent Virginia Sales Tax Holiday weekend.
