ReNew the New hosted its annual Fall into the New river cleanup this summer, with citizens, non-profits, local businesses, groups from Radford University and Virginia Tech, the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and volunteers from across the region gathering in Giles County, Montgomery County and the City of Radford to clean up debris from the New River and its banks.
At this year’s event, over 450 volunteers removed 165 bags of trash equating to 750 pounds. Volunteers removed 110 tires and some of the most interesting finds included a vintage coke sign, a bed frame and a fishing tournament measuring board.
Congratulations to all of the organizers and participants for another wonderful year cleaning up the watershed. More information on this year’s cleanup and what is happening in the watershed can be found at https://www.newriverwatershed.org/.
