Virginia Tech has a national championship. The school’s Equestrian Club brought home the IDA national championship at the IDA National Championships this past week in St. Louis, Missouri.
Team placings were Chloe Boyle with third in the first level team test, Sophia Barrett eighth in the Upper Training Team Test, Alyssa Backa took third place in lower training team test, and Brienza Marraccini first place in intro team test.
2027 Drag Strip
Pulaski County Motorsports has announced a full 2027 schedule for the drag strip at the track.
Racing dates include: April 17, May 8, May 22, June 5, June 26, July 10, July 31, Aug. 28 and Sept. 11.
Tipoff participants
With basketball season inching closer, the ACC’s annual Tipoff event in Charlotte was set for Oct. 5-7 featuring representatives from all 18 of the league’s men’s and women’s programs. The Virginia Tech women’s program participated on Monday, Oct. 5 in the afternoon session. , in her third year in Blacksburg was alongside guard and forward . On the men’s side, , and will represent the program, all three key returners from last season. is in his eighth season with the Hokies. The Tech contingent will be a part of the afternoon session on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Hokies shine in pool
The Virginia Tech swimming and diving teams kicked off the season hosting Liberty (women only), Penn State and West Virginia (men only) at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center. The women’s squad cruised to a 312-41 win over Penn State and a 240-113 win over Liberty. On the men’s side, the Hokies earned two huge wins over Penn State (265.50-87.50) and West Virginia (264-89).
The Hokies shone on both sides and posted several nationally-ranked top 15 times. ’s time of 19.49 in the 50 free ranks 11th nationally while his 42.08 in the 100 free ranks third.
’s 1:35.16 in the 200 free is the 10th-fastest time in the country this season. He also ranks 10th in the 500 free and fourth in the 1000 free. shined in the backstroke events, posting the eighth-fastest time in the nation in the 100 backstroke (46.70) and the seventh-fastest time in the 200 backstroke (1:40.81).
