Horror Movie Trivia Night

At the Radford Public Library, 6-7 p.m. What is your favorite scary movie?

Do you have what it takes to survive a frightful night of horror movie trivia? From slashers to elevated horror, from the silent era to modern blockbusters, this trivia night has it all. The winning contestant or team will win a vintage Jack O’ Lantern bucket filled with candy and ultimate bragging rights! Registration is encouraged. Highlanders Festival

Sunday, Oct. 11:

Blacksburg Vintage Market

Shop at the Blacksburg Vintage Market on the second and fourth Sundays of every month, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., for vintage vinyl, clothing, jewelry, books, housewares, oddities and more. Located in downtown Blacksburg at the corner of Roanoke Street and Draper Avenue, in Market Square Park, under the farmers market structure. Plenty of parking is available nearby.

Monday, Oct. 12:

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St., Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam

At the Radford University Artis Center, 801 E. Main St., Radford, 6-9 p.m. every Monday. The Jam is an official event of the Crooked Road Virginia Heritage Music Trail. The event is free and all are welcome. For more info, visit the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam Facebook page.

Tuesday, Oct. 13:

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

At 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 100 E. Main St., Christiansburg. This is a regular meeting of town council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

Brown Bag Book Club

Radford Public Library, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Never Whistle at Night: Come join a fun, informal, book discussion at the library. This month’s book is Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology. This book is a collection of unique and terrifying short stories, all written by Native American authors. Come enjoy a friendly chat and refreshments inspired by the book. This month we’re serving pemmican and mint tea as well as our usual coffee. The Brown Bag Book Club meets monthly and is open to anyone. We’d love to see you there.

Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. at the NRV Superbowl, 375 Arbor Drive NE, Christiansburg. Memory Matters Film Series: Elizabeth is Missing

At the Warm Hearth Village Center, 2387 Warm Hearth Dr., Blacksburg, 1 p.m. When her friend Elizabeth suddenly disappears, Maud is determined to find out what happened. But as Alzheimer’s blurs the line between past and present, her search awakens memories of another disappearance decades earlier. This is a moving and suspenseful mystery about memory, family, and the determination to uncover the truth.

Genealogy in the Age of AI

Radford Public Library, 2-3 p.m. Licensed local genealogist Rebecca Novy will be at the library to teach you all about the practical applications of AI tools in genealogy research. Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming how we explore family history, offering powerful tools to process information faster than ever before. However, while AI can analyze documents in seconds, it lacks human critical thinking and historical judgment.

This course offers a balanced, practical guide to integrating AI into your family history workflow — showing you how to harness its powerful capabilities while protecting your research from costly mistakes. Coffee and light refreshments provided. While this event is free and open to anyone, it’s geared primarily towards adults with an interest in genealogy.

Estate Planning

Wills, power of attorney and end of life legal documents

At the Radford Public Library, 6-7 p.m. In partnership with the Southwest VA Legal Aid Society, an attorney will present on wills, health care proxy and power of attorney documents. Get your legal questions about end-of-life planning answered at the library. While this event is free and open to anyone, it’s geared primarily towards adults with an interest in estate planning.

Sounds of Appalachia Concert

Becky Buller in concert, sponsored by the Montgomery Museum of Art and History, at the Christiansburg High School Auditorium, 100 Independence Blvd. NW, Christiansburg, 7:30-9 p.m. Tickets are $25 advance/ $30 day-of/ $10 students.

Tuesday, Oct. 27:

Grief Support Group

At The Village Center at Warm Hearth Village, 2387 Warm Hearth Dr., Blacksburg, 11 a.m. – noon. Grief can feel isolating – but you don’t have to go through it alone. Join us for a compassionate grief support group offering connection, understanding, and a safe place to be with others who understand loss. Sharing is optional. Listening is enough. Downtown Christiansburg Halloween Treat Trail

The Downtown Halloween Treat Trail is back with even more spooky fun! Come out Halloween evening for trick-or-treating in Downtown Christiansburg, 5-7 p.m. Local businesses will be handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. This year’s event has expanded and will feature: Safety Patch on N. Franklin St.: Meet Christiansburg’s first responders. They’ll be passing out treats and hosting safety-themed activities. Business Block on N. Franklin St.: Not a downtown business? No problem! Christiansburg businesses located outside of Downtown can join the fun by setting up a table and handing out candy. Blacksburg Fall Cleanup

Fall cleanup began Monday, Sept. 28 in the Northeast Quadrant. Materials must be separated into distinct piles and be placed at the curb for collection. Brush and yard debris will be collected on one day, and other bulky items will be picked up on another day during each quadrant’s scheduled week.
