Daniel Maderic, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5311(Christiansburg), recently presented a donation of $500.00 to Joanie Barker of the Salvation Army in Christiansburg. The Salvation Army provides support for members of the U.S. armed forces both at home and overseas. Maderic talked about his experience as a Marine in Vietnam during Christmas 1969. He received a care package from the Salvation Army and, while he doesn’t remember everything in it, the package contained two pairs of dry socks. “Dry anything during the monsoon season in Vietnam was great, but dry socks were priceless at this time in my life and I will never forget what the Salvation Army did for me that year,” he said.
