Stay and Play, a Library Playgroup

Under their parent’s supervision, babies and toddlers can play during this informal gathering. This program is for ages 0-4 and meets in the storytime room.

BLAST! Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training
March 6, 6-7 p.m.

This four-week course is designed for children ages 10-16 and limited to 12 students. They will learn how to interview for a babysitting job, select safe and suitable activities, prevent accidents, perform first aid and begin babysitting safely and competently. Advance registration is required. Participants need to attend all four weeks in order to receive a certificate.

Free AARP TAX –AIDE Preparation Assistance

Meadowbrook Public Library hosts the AARP Tax Aide Program. IRS trained tax volunteers’ assist citizens with their personal tax returns for 2016. These services are intended primarily for seniors and low-income individuals and families. Taxpayers are asked to bring last year’s tax returns, their W-2s and 1099s, and a photo ID, social security card or social security statement. No businesses returns will be prepared. By appointment and if time allows walk-ins. Call the library at 268-1964 to reserve your time.
DNA and Genealogy: the Basics

What can you expect from a commercial DNA test and what will the results tell you about your family history? Learn about the science of DNA and how it is used in genealogy in this presentation by Robert Lockett, a former president and current director of the Wythe County Genealogical and Historical Association. Mr. Lockett and his wife reside in Riner.
