Blacksburg Library Events

Blacksburg Library Storytimes:

Babies (0-12 months) – Fridays at 11 a.m.

Tots (12-24 months) – Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

Toddlers (2-3 years) – Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Preschoolers (4-5 years) – Thursdays at 10 a.m.

All ages – Saturdays at 11 a.m.

Stay and Play, a Library Playgroup

Every Wednesday after Storytime, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Under their parent’s supervision, babies and toddlers can play during this informal gathering. This program is for ages 0-4 and meets in the storytime room.

Andrea Denniston: Pottery Exhibit on Display

All month

Andrea Denniston, co-owner and operator of Andrea Denniston Ceramics and Poor Farm Pottery in Floyd creates everyday objects from fine porcelain. Come check out her beautiful, useful porcelain art objects.

Ripley’s ~ Believe It or Not! March Book Raffle

All month

For the legions of dedicated Ripley’s fans, and anyone else on the planet who loves the unbelievable, this book is a must! Stop by the library and fill out a raffle ticket for a chance to win this book.

Helping PAWS: Dog Edition with “Yogi”

March 25, 12-1 p.m.

Reserve a 10-minute reading slot for your child to read aloud to certified therapy dog “Yogi” and his handler, Dr. Corrigan.

Health Fair for Kids

March 25, 2-4 p.m.

Drop in for activities and crafts related to various health topics. Open to children of all ages. Presented by the Foundations of International Medical Relief for Children at Virginia Tech.

Talking About Books: Fiction

March 27, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Join us for a book discussion of Elizabeth Strout’s “My Name is Lucy Barton.” No commitment is required.

BLAST! Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training

March 27, 6-7 p.m.

This four-week course is designed for children ages 10-16 and limited to 12 students. They will learn how to interview for a babysitting job, select safe and suitable activities, prevent accidents, perform first aid and begin babysitting safely and competently. Advance registration is required. Participants need to attend all four weeks in order to receive a certificate.

Sharpie T-shirt Tie Dye

March 30, 4:30 p.m.

Join us for Sharpie art fun! Bring a white T-shirt to decorate. Recommended for ages 11 and up.

Singing in the Rain: 65th Anniversary

March 25, 2-4 p.m.

Celebrate the 65th anniversary of the beloved “Singing in the Rain.” Light refreshments provided.

Photography Lecture

March 26, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Artist in Residence Charlie Whitescarver will present a lecture titled “Why the Odds are Against You Getting a Good Photograph.” Attendees will learn how to take great photos in spite of yourself.

Seed Starting

March 27, 2-3 p.m.

Learn how to start seeds for your garden this year with Master Gardner Erica Jones.

Writing Workshop

Learn the basics of resume writing and get help writing your own! Space is limited, so registration is required.

Needle Crafting Group

March 26, 2-3 p.m.

Bring your knitting needles, crochet hooks, and cross stitch to work on while socializing with others. This group meets each month on the fourth Sunday at 2 p.m.

Creative Writing Workshop

March 30, 5:15-6:30 p.m.

Join us at the Meadowbrook Public Library to improve your writing! Bring your work for small-group feedback and editing. The workshop meets every Thursday of the month.
