Auburn defender Alyssa Musselman has announced she will continue her soccer career at Division II Freed-Hardemon University in Henderson, Tennessee.

Friday, she signed a letter of intent in front of family, teachers, friends and teammates in the school’s library.

Freed-Hardemon is a Christian school founded in 1869 with a current enrollment of 1,952 students. The school is a member of the American Midwest Conference in athletics.

The FH girls’ soccer team loses three seniors from this year’s squad that finished 4-10-3.

Musselman said she felt at home during a recent visit and likes the small campus-feel that echoes her Christian beliefs. “The team and players treated me so well on the visit, and I can see myself playing and going to school there,” she said shortly after the signing.

Auburn Coach Ashley Moreno called Musselman a speedy defender with a lot of heart “She is also a great team player,” she said.

Musselman has started every game for the Auburn Eagles for the past three years, and as a freshman helped to start the school’s first girls team. She started playing in middle school and has played on five different travel teams.

“I learned over the past few years that you can have a bunch of good players, but you gotta have heart. This year’s team has that,” she said.

Alyssa’s sister, Jessica, is also a member of the Auburn girls’ soccer team. Their parents are Ray and Jennifer Musselman.

She is an A/B-student at Auburn High School and hopes to major in kinesiology at Freed-Hardemon. “I want to go to grad school and become either a sports trainer or physical therapist.”

In addition to soccer, Musselman is also a member of the Beta Club, indoor track and volunteers to work at a concession stand at Virginia Tech football games for her church, the Radford Church of Christ.
