Christiansburg Thanksgiving week schedule
Christiansburg Town Hall will be closed Today, Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24, in observance of Thanksgiving. Town Hall will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27.
The Christiansburg Aquatic Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, closed on Nov. 23, and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 24. The Christiansburg Recreation Center will be open during regular hours (5:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.) today, and will be closed Nov. 23 and 24. Administrative offices at both centers will be closed Nov. 22-24.
Garbage which would have been collected on Thursday, Nov. 23, will be collected on Monday, Nov. 27, with Monday’s regular collection.
Garbage which would have been collected on Friday, Nov. 24, will be collected on Tuesday, Nov. 28, with Tuesday’s regular collection. Please have garbage placed out for collection by 8 a.m.
CPD collecting donations for holiday assitance program
The Christiansburg Police Department’s annual donation drive for the “Santa and the Blue Elves” program has begun. The program works with the Montgomery County Department of Social Services to deliver gifts to needy families during the holiday season.
If you would like to sponsor a family or make a donation, please contact Sergeant Phillip Townley at ptownley@christiansburg.org. All donations must be made by Friday, Dec. 8.
The following items are examples of acceptable donations:
- non-slip socks
- non-medicated ChapStick, powders or lotions
- word search or crossword puzzle books
- coloring books
- small packs of crayons
- tissues (small packs)
- candies, crackers (regular and diabetic)
- shampoo
- small stuffed animals
- combs
- eye glass cleaning cloths
Blacksburg real estate taxes due Dec. 5
Town of Blacksburg Real Estate Tax invoices for the second installment of 2017 have been mailed and are due by Tuesday, December 5, 2017. If you have not yet received a tax statement, call the Department of Financial Services at 540-961-1105.
Payment may be mailed, made in person at 300 South Main Street, Blacksburg, Virginia, or paid online at www.Blacksburg.gov/payments. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
A 10 percent penalty will be charged if not paid by Tuesday, Dec. 5. Interest will be charged at the rate of 10 percent per year beginning Jan. 1, 2018.
