Nelson Leon Pettus, 73, of Christiansburg, passed away on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018. He was a member of New Hope Church of God and was retired from Lynchburg Foundry with over 38 years of service. Born on Jan. 6, 1945, he was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Nelson Pettus and Hazel Barton Whitlock; and his sister, Judith Austin.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Joyce Duncan Pettus; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Gary Simpkins of Snowville, and Amy and Ricky Greer of Dublin; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dena Pettus of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Sherrie Sifford, Christopher Loan, Bradley Hamm, Dylan Greer, Rachael Greer, Brendon Pettus, Brett Pettus and Brittany Crawford; 9 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Teresa Pettus of Christiansburg; brother-in-law, Leon Austin; special adopted son, Edwin and Ingrid Gomez; special daughter, Samantha Meadows; special great nephew, Nigel Duncan.
The family received friends on Monday, August 20, 2018 at New Hope Church of God, 1404 Mudpike Road, Christiansburg. Funeral services were held with Rev. T. Michael Bond officiating. Interment followed in West View Cemetery in Radford.
The Pettus family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
