Christiansburg High School failed to claim another state championship in Class 3, bringing home the runner up trophy this go around. But several local wrestlers performed well across the four classes.
Blacksburg’s Shane Mitcham finished his high school career by winning the state title in the Class 4 285-pound final with a 7-0 decision over Jamestown’s Drew Wilder.
Auburn finished with 24 points in the Class 1 state meet with 21 points. Grundy took first with 269.5 total points, while Rural Retreat was second with 164.5 points. Riverheads was third and Galax fourth.
Triston Perry and Devin Davis brought home fifth place finishes for Auburn.
