S.C. Rossi Construction is scheduled to begin work this week on a new intersection project on Roanoke Street near the Gateway Shopping Center. The $1.83 million project will help to improve safety, walkability and traffic flow in that area.
The project will include a new signal light, storm drainage, sidewalks, curb and gutter, and street lighting. Construction is expected to be completed by fall of this year.
According to information provided by the town, the new Falling Branch intersection will help support the private development of two parcels adjacent to the access road as well as an Emergency Services Building planned to be built on the currently vacant lot between Danny’s Pawn Shop and Dude’s Drive-In restaurant.
Motorists should expect temporary lane closures, but no detours. Work is expected to occur Monday through Friday during daytime hours only.
The town also received additional funds for the future extension of a sidewalk on the north side of Roanoke Street that will stretch from the new intersection to Hubble Drive.
