Eberle All-District
For the second straight season, No. 22/20 Virginia Tech softball’s Carrie Eberle was named to CoSIDA’s 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District 3 Softball Team, as announced by the organization on Friday.
The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Eberle, a biology major with a 3.86 GPA, is one of only three players on the team to make it two consecutive years, joining Western Carolina’s Madison Armstrong and Belmont’s Hayley Baker.
The righty ranks first in complete games (21) in the ACC and second in wins (25), innings pitched (189.2), ERA (1.73) & shutouts (nine). Earlier this week, Eberle was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year and first-team All-ACC.
Bennett All-Freshman
Virginia Tech softball’s Kelsey Bennett was named to the Schutt Sports/NFCA National Freshman of the Year top 10 list on Thursday.
Bennett (.397 BA, 44 RBIs), who was named the ACC Freshman of the Year, first-team All-ACC and to the All-ACC Freshmen Team on Tuesday, becomes the first player in school history to make the top-10 list.
The winner will be presented prior to the start of the 2019 NCAA Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
The Schutt Sports / NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award was created in 2014 to honor outstanding athletic achievement among Division I freshmen softball student-athletes.
Bennett, who broke the school record for home runs in a season by a freshman with 13, is one of only five Power Five freshmen to bat over .395. She also is one of only three Power Five freshmen to start at third base every game.
