Trevor Dominy, a graduate of Auburn High School, is this year’s Big South steeplechase champion. Now a Charleston Southern University (S.C.) junior, Dominy dominated the field on Thursday to claim the event.
At Auburn, he won a Virginia 1A state championship as an individual in cross country and also won state titles in the 3200 m. in indoor and outdoor and the 4×800 in outdoor. Dominy was part of an Auburn High team that won four straight team state championships in cross country.
Last season, he finished ninth in the steeplechase event.
Dominy collected his second medal of the week with a third-place finish in the 5K at the Big South championships on Friday. He crossed the line with a time of 15:09.94.
As a team, Charleston Southern’s men took third place at the 2019 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Bucs finished with 145 points behind only Hampton and Campbell.
