ACC honors Ashby

Junior LB Rayshard Ashby has been named ACC Linebacker of the Week following a standout performance against Boston College, the league office announced Monday.

Ashby led the Hokies with 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack at BC on Saturday. The junior also had a pass breakup. The Chesterfield, Virginia native’s 3.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage set a new career high. Ashby has now led the team in tackles seven times in his career and off his 13 tackles against the Eagles, seven were solo stops.

Perez, Kirnos POW

The Big South Player of the Week awards were announced on Tuesday afternoon and both Nelia Perez and Alexeis Kirnos were among those recognized by the conference office for their performances against Elon and East Carolina.
Perez was named the Big South Co-Attacking Player of the Week after notching both of Radford’s goals last week, including the game-winner against East Carolina on Sunday.

Her shot count has increased by one with each game. She took two shots against Elon and three against East Carolina. Four of her five shots in the two games landed on target for a .750 shot on goal percentage.

Kirnos took home Big South Freshman of the Week after picking up her first career assist in the Elon match on Thursday night. She crossed the ball to the middle of the field through a defender and right to Perez, who finished for the lone Highlander goal of the game.

The freshman also added her lone point this season and took one shot. She played 101 minutes in the two matches last week including a season-high 62 against Elon.
