Computer Workshop
“Word: Part 2” will teach students to organize content using tables and charts, customize formats using styles and themes and insert content using Quick Parts. The course will cover templates, building blocks, footnotes, indexes and mail merge; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at NRCC in Dublin on Friday, November 8, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Microsoft 2019, class #15285).
Concert at Solitude
Anya Hinkle and Tellico will perform at Solitude, located at 705 West Campus Dr. next to the Duck Pond, at 7 p.m. Football game parking restrictions have been waived, so parking beside the building is available. With vivid storytelling, vibrant musicianship and arresting honesty, Anya Hinkle & Tellico explore the beauty of songcraft through the lens of the Appalachian stringband tradition. Tellico features the singing and songwriting of Anya Hinkle, originally from Blacksburg, steeped in the tones of bluegrass and seasoned by travels across the world. Tellico includes Julian Pinelli on fiddle, Thomas Cassell on mandolin, and Johnny Calamari on bass. Free, but donations to the band welcome. Seating is limited, so arrive early. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 9:
Mount Tabor Ruritan Biscuit Breakfast
Hungry for some biscuits and gravy, or biscuits and apple butter? From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will be serving up scratch-made biscuits topped with delicious sausage gravy, or with some of our “world-famous” apple butter. There will also be scrambled eggs, as well as orange juice, milk and coffee. Breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall of Slusser’s Chapel, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd, Blacksburg. This is below the Sanctuary, on the lower church parking lot level. This is a fundraiser for our club to help us as we serve our community, therefore, donations will be accepted for the breakfast. Northside Church holds donation drives
Take gently used, clean clothing, toys and books to Northside Presbyterian Church on November 2, 9 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Since 1988, the Northside Church has been a collection site for donations to benefit the Montgomery County Christmas Store. The Christmas Store partners with MCEAP Thrift Store and all donations will be taken to the Store where they will be sorted by MCEAP volunteers. Please donate new and gently used, clean clothing for sizes Newborn to Adult. Critical needs include boys and girls infant to size 5 winter coats, kids winter shoes and boots, 2X and larger clothing for men and women, and men’s gloves and hats. NAACP Veteran’s Day celebration
Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County branch of the NAACP will hold a Veterans’ Day Celebration at 3 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 500 Stuart St. in Christiansburg. The featured speaker will be Mr. Elmer A Bishop, Former Gunners Mate, U. S. Navy. Veterans will be honored and are welcome to participate in the procession. All are welcome.

Veterans Day Parade
Christiansburg High School will be hosting its annual Veterans Day Parade at 10:30 a.m. Parking on Main Street will be prohibited after 6 a.m. on Nov. 11, and Main Street will be closed to traffic starting at 8:45 a.m. The street will be reopened by 1 p.m.

Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784, 7 p.m. at Ray’s Restaurant on Rt. 221, north of Floyd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. Member Gary Gray will present Part 2 of his “History of the Stuart Horse Artillery.” This will be followed by a discussion of the upcoming Christmas Parade in Floyd. Pilot Pancake Supper
Pancake Supper at the Pilot Community Center, 4449 Brush Creek Road, Pilot; 4 – 6 p.m. $5 per person. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help restore this historic structure. The old Pilot School was built in 1921, and is the only four-room schoolhouse still surviving in Montgomery County. The Pilot Community Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity and all donations are tax deductible.

Christiansburg Leaf Collection
The Town of Christiansburg is offering its annual Loose Leaf Collection service to residents weekdays from Nov. 4 through Dec. 20, weather permitting. Public Works crews will only collect piles of loose leaves; leaves placed in bags will not be accepted. Please do not place pile of loose leaves in a way that blocks sidewalks, sanitary sewers, solid waste carts, drainage ditches or utility meter boxes.
Crafting Group
Christiansburg Helping Hands is a group of crafters coming together every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the Christiansburg Rec Center. We make items for various needs in our community. Please feel free to join us for a fun afternoon of knitting, crocheting or sewing (your choice), as well as connect with some new friends and make a difference in our community. VFW Scholarship Opportunity
The Meadowbrook Library and VFW Post 4920 and Auxiliary are working together to provide the opportunity for students to enter for the VFW Scholarships-Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy. These are open for students in grades 6-12. These scholarships can be worth up to $30,000 but you have to enter to be eligible. Entry forms and instructions are available at the Meadowbrook Library.
Storytime at the Radford Public Library
Come join us for weekly storytimes at the library! Storytimes are designed to promote pre-reading skills and a love of books. We share books, finger-plays, songs, and other activities that parents and caregivers can repeat at home. No sign-up required, just drop in! As of Jan. 1, 2019, new health coverage for adults covers more people. If you work in retail, construction, childcare, landscaping, food service or many of the jobs that don’t offer health insurance, you may be able to get low-cost health insurance that includes regular preventive care and treatment for chronic health conditions. Montgomery Museum volunteer opportunities

Docent: training is provided for individuals to staff the front office, answer calls, make sales, and interpret the history of the museum; events planning: planning and implementation of our major events annually, including Heritage Day, Mountains of Music, h’Arts on Main, Cruisin’ Christiansburg; Working with any of the committees: (Membership, Marketing, Events/Fundraising, Building Expansion, Building and Grounds); research with genealogy projects: working with the genealogy team; gardening: working in the garden with Virginia Master Gardeners. Pre-1940s schools exhibit seeks contributions
The Montgomery Museum of Art and History is celebrating an upcoming new exhibit at the museum on the history of schools in Montgomery County with a series of school photos this month. Art in Miss Jessie’s Gallery & Front Desk
All Month of November, at the Jessie Peterman Memorial Library. Featuring the sculpture, drawings, paintings, and graphics of artist Ling Jie Gu, who seeks to find meaning in the natural world land translate it into a comprehensible format for her audience to enjoy. The pieces are either anecdotes of her imagination, or merely studies of how the natural world operates. She seeks to translate these things into a common lingo. Don’t miss her high energy show!

Just pick up an art card at the front desk, visit Miss Jessie’s Gallery, answer a few questions, then return your signed card to the front desk for a bookmark. Complete five cards, and you will get your very own artist sketchbook. Parental assistance is encouraged, particularly for the littlest Junior Artists!
