Blacksburg High School placed nine different players on the River Ridge District football teams announced Wednesday while Christiansburg High School had six different players honored.
District champ Salem dominated the all-star team with seven first teamers including offensive player of the year Isaiah Peringer and coach of the year Don Holter. Pulaski County’s Austin Gallimore was named the league’s defensive player of the year.
Receivers Karim Mohammed and Josh Gholston joined Bruin teammate Brian Mitchell on the first team. Mitchell was chosen for all-purpose offense. Mohammed was also named to the first team as a kick returner.
On defense, Luke Goforth gave Blacksburg a first-teamer at defensive back. Mitchell was also named to the first team as a punt returner.
Christiansburg’s Maston Stanley made the first team on both sides of the ball as a running back and as a linebacker. Joining him on the first team were punter MJ Hunter and defense all-purpose player Caleb Henley.
Blacksburg second-team offensive players were quarterback Luke Goforth, offensive lineman Ryan Castle and kicker James Poland. Bruins on the second-team defense,were linemen Blaise Butler and Darius Norris, linebacker Parker Epperley and punter Luke Goforth.
Christiansburg second-team offensive players were linemen Jesse Irizarry and Bryson Griffith and running back Drew Lloyd. Defensive back MJ Hunter was the lone Christiansburg second teamer on defense.
Blacksburg’s Mohamed was also named to the Region 4D first team as a receiver. Gholston was second-team offense while Mohamed was also honored as a kick returner and Mitchell was offensive all-purpose.
Goforth was named to the region’s first-team defense as a defensive back and punter while Mitchell was the first-team defensive all-purpose player.
Norris made the second team 4D defense with Epperley honored as second team linebacker.
