Montgomery County Parks & Recreation has announced it will join Cal Ripken Baseball in the spring. Cal Ripken Baseball is a division of Babe Ruth League that provides youth baseball for ages 4-12. Montgomery County joined Babe Ruth Softball in 2018 and now will become a full member of Babe Ruth League by joining baseball as well.

As of now, Christiansburg Parks and Recreation, Radford Parks and Recreation, Pulaski County Parks and Recreation, and Floyd County Parks and Recreation will also be participating in the new Ripken Baseball leagues.

Montgomery will offer two divisions of league play. The first is Minors, which is recommended for ballplayers 9-10. Players build and refine their fundamental skills while beginning to understand game strategy and teamwork. The second is Majors/70, featuring a 50′ pitching distance and 70′ base paths. This division is recommended for ballplayers ages 11-12.

Both divisions feature a tournament trail starting at the district level and continuing to the Ripken World Series. League age is player age on May 1, 2020.

Teeball, coach-pitch Baseball and coach-pitch softball will remain independent.

Montgomery County had previously participated in Dixie Youth Baseball, winning three Ozone District championships and one AAA district championship.

Registration opens for all youth baseball and softball leagues on Jan. 15, 2020, and runs through March 6, 2020.
