Claytor Lake State Park is offering the 2020 Christmas for the Fishes through Monday, January 20, 2020, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily.
Donating your old Christmas trees to the park will help ensure years of great fishing at Claytor Lake. Donated trees will be incorporated into reef structures to enhance habitat for game fish.
All trees must be free of lights, tinsel and other ornaments, and only real trees can be donated. Those making a tree donation will receive free park admission on the day of donation. Those making donations can find tree-tag directions located at the drop site for proof of donation and parking pass receipt.
Individuals can also volunteer to help deposit the trees into the lake.
Primary drop day will be on January 22 and secondary/backup drop day will be January 28. Those donating trees can meet at the marina parking lot at 9 a.m. Be prepared for adverse weather conditions and bring a pair of work gloves. Volunteers should be able to lift 50 pounds.
