Molly McMichael helped lead the Auburn High School tennis team to a state title in 2019 and has announced plans to continue her playing career at Emory and Henry College.
McMichael and teammate Haley Gordon paired up to win the Class 1 state doubles championship. She hopes to repeat the feat in 2020.
“I chose to go to Emory and Henry because the atmosphere is amazing and everybody was so welcoming and nice,” she said.
This past spring, the Wasps of Emory & Henry College finished 14-7 and concluded their season with the best record in the “dual-match championship” era of E&H women’s tennis (since 2007). The team’s lineup included nine underclassman including Logan Graham of Radford.
McMichael said she is excited to play at E&H where she will continue to work on her skill set.
But first, her eyes are focused on the spring and maybe another shot at a state title for Auburn.
“This spring, I am determined to win it all. I am putting in countless hours of practice so I’m excited to see how I’ll perform in the spring, and hopefully win my fourth state championship,” she said.
McMichael is active in her school and church community. At Auburn High School, she belongs to the FBLA and YOVASO and is president of Educators Rising. She has served on the yearbook staff and is the senior class treasurer. She also played volleyball for Auburn her freshman and sophomore years.
At E&H, McMichael hopes to major in nursing and eventually be a neonatal nurse.
