Christiansburg High senior Harley Dove has chosen to continue her softball career at Southwest Community College in Cedar Bluff, Va.
Dove said she feels Southwest offers a small–classroom learning experience, an atmosphere she absolutely loves, and an amazing coach.
Southwest Virginia Community College is a two-year institution established as part of the statewide system of community colleges. The school fields teams in 14 sports that play in the national junior college athletic ranks.
Dove played two years of softball at shortstop for the Christiansburg Blue Demons. She averaged.424 with 56 hits, 39 RBIs, 13 doubles, six triples, 40 runs scored, 61 pu outs and 65 assists.
Like other spring athletes, Dove was disappointed to lose her senior season.
“But with this I’ve learned that somethings are bigger than myself,” she said. “I know we would have had a great season this year due to the skill level and overall friendship this team established during preseason,” she said.
Her goals at Southwest are straightforward but not necessarily simple..
“I want to continue to learn life skills, have less than five strikeouts on offense, and go error–free on defense.”
Dove expects to play part of Southwest’s middle infield.
She has not decided on a major at this point but hopes to pursue a career in law encorcement or in business.
