Virginia still has seventh most coronavirus restrictions

With all states having at least partially reopened as new COVID-19 cases have seen a slow decline, the personal-finance website WalletHub this week released updated rankings for the states with the fewest (and the most) coronavirus restrictions.

According to the WalletHub survey, under the leadership of Democrat Governor Ralph Northam, Virginia still has the seventh most coronavirus restrictions in place among the fifty states and the District of Columbia.

WalletHub used 14 key metrics for its comparisons. The data set ranges from whether child-care programs and restaurants have reopened to the presence or absence of a “shelter-in-place” order.

Here are highlights of the survey pertaining to Virginia with the lower scores being the fewest restrictions:

Requirement to wear a face mask: 17th; travel restrictions: 32nd; strictness of ‘shelter in place’ order: 42nd; reopening of non-essential businesses: 22nd; presence of multistate agreements to open: 20th.

Overall, the 14 metrics combined to determine Virginia’s place in the list as 43rd, the state having the seventh most restrictions. The only states with more restrictions than Virginia, according to the survey, are Vermont, New Mexico, Hawaii, New Jersey, California and New Hampshire.
