Blacksburg’s Jake Albert won the 15-16 age group as the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour opened the tournament portion of its schedule at Draper Valley Golf Club in Draper. He edged Sean Ruan, also of Blacksburg, by one stroke.
Eighty-four junior golfers participated in the Dr. Ken Parker Junior Classic.
With social distancing measures in place, the young players were able to negotiate the challenging layout safely.
“It was good to see the players and their families again, albeit under different circumstances. It seems that we’ve all been waiting for something familiar for a long time. I’m glad we can participate safely on the golf course,” said Dewayne Belcher, the tour director.
Albert won the age group with a score of 74. He made birdies on holes 14, 15 and 17 to gain a slim victory over Ruan, who posted a round of 75.
Other winners in their respective age groups and their scores were Daniel Goode of Wytheville (74) in the 17-18 age group; Grayson Sheets of Marion (74) in the 13-14 age group; David Goode of Wytheville (31 on nine holes) in the 10-12 age group; and Campbell Sayers of Marion (37) in the 9-and-under age group. Hudson Hurt of Radford was second with a 39, and Liam Smith of Elliston was third with a 44.
