Holding signs with messages of hope and encouragement, the official welcoming committee of the Light the Fight Drive-Through Luminaria Display met supporters at the entrance to the Christiansburg Recreation Center Friday evening. They were (L-R) Neal Stump, Carolyn Stump, Hannah Lucas, Judy Scott and Stephen Scott. The event was the first of its kind for Relay for Life of Montgomery County, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The rec center’s parking lot displayed luminaria bags and lanterns personalized with the names of cancer survivors and the names of those who lost their battle. They were purchased with a $5 donation to Relay for Life. “This ceremony allowed us to celebrate, remember and continue to fight cancer in a safe and socially distanced way,” said event leader Donna Christian.
