The need for training and employment services in the New River Valley has increased by nearly 40 percent in the past year, and Goodwill Industries of the Valleys has been on hand to answer the call with virtual job training classes and employment services.

Since Goodwill Industries of the Valleys launched its virtual services in March, more than 10,000 people have taken advantage of the job training and the employment services. More than 2,200 credentials were earned in the first six months of the year by individuals in Goodwill programming.
“With Goodwill stores being closed for two months, the public’s support has been critical to providing services to people throughout our communities,” said Kelly Sandridge, Goodwill’s vice president of brand strategy and external affairs. “Support through individuals continuing to donate household goods and monetary donations has allowed Goodwill to continue to be of service, offering virtual training, live classes, one-on-one coaching and other services for individuals, as everyone navigates this COVID-19 crisis. Together Goodwill and the public’s support are helping people throughout our communities.”
Goodwill stores have now reopened to shoppers and Career Centers and satellite offices have reopened by appointment only and capacity is sometimes limited. Goodwill Virtual Services remain operational for individuals to access assistance virtually. Also, Goodwill shoppers can continue to shop online from the comfort of home at ShopGoodwill while still supporting Goodwill’s mission.
Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities and disadvantages overcome barriers to employment. It is headquartered in Roanoke and serves 35 counties, including Montgomery, and 14 cities in Central, Southwest and Southside Virginia.
