Christiansburg Late Model race car driver Derrick Lancaster suffered what could be career-ending injuries in a serious crash this past weekend in a Kingsport Raceway event.
In the wake of the crash, doctors have reportedly advised him not to race again.
According to reports from the raceway, Lancaster’s No. 25 Chevy catapulted over another car and straight into the turn four wall. The front of his car burst into flames.
Lancaster was pulled from the wreckage and taken to Holston Valley Medical Center.
According to a Facebook post by Lancaster’s wife, MRI results showed a hairline fracture at the base of the driver’s skull. Surgery will not be required, but he will be in a neck brace for three months.
The owner-operator of Total Car and Truck Service in Christiansburg, Lancaster has started more than 100 races between Motor Mile Speedway and Kingsport Speedway since 2008. He was a frequent competitor in the Dirty Dozen Late Model series, where all five of his Top–10 finishes came at Motor Mile. Lancaster has also run four ARCA races in the past four years, scoring a career-best finish of sixth at Talladega Superspeedway in 2014.
