RADFORD – Pathways for Radford and friends have been planting Redbud trees in honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day for more than a decade.
Saturday marked the group of volunteers’ 13th year and nearly 30 trees were planted along The Riverway and Sundell Drive. Pathways for Radford organized more than 20 years ago.
“Over 20 years ago, in 1998 to be exact, a group of civic-minded folks came together with the vision of creating a bikeway/walkway system in Radford,” the group posted on Saturday. “All these years later, trails have been built, trees have been planted, and friendships that were born then are still solid now, although some friends have moved away and new friends have since joined the core group.
“We missed some of our regulars who were not able to be here today,” the group posted. “Thanks to our City Forester Nick Lancaster and to Wilson Rankin for organizing an always great day of tree planting!”
