Marie March was the winner of the Republican Firehouse Primary according to Gene Bishop, Chairman of the Seventh Legislative District Committee.
The Seventh Legislative District encompasses all of Floyd County and parts of Montgomery and Pulaski counties. The election was held to select a nominee to succeed Delegate Nick Rush, who decided not to seek re-election after serving 10 years.
March won with a greater-than-expected turnout with long lines and busy poll workers on a rainy day, Bishop said. She took 54% of the vote with second place Sherri M. Blevins coming in second with 26% of the vote and Lowell Bowman finishing third with 20% of the vote.
March carried Floyd County with 554 votes out of a total of 739; Blevens took Montgomery County with 376 of the county’s 859 total votes. March also carried Pulaski County’s vote with 528 of the 963 total votes.
Bishop said, “Excitement about this race was high with three very able candidates who all ran good campaigns. This turnout was a record setter for a primary.”
March is thus the official Republican nominee and will be on the Nov. 2, 2021, general election ballot for the Seventh District House of Delegates seat.
