Radford High School’s Future Farmers of America Club Horse Judging team recently took second place in the Horse Judging Competition, held March 22 at Meadowridge Stables in Christiansburg.

The team consists of Bella Calfee, Sophia Gaither, Anna Hall and Katie Shumate. In addition to the second-place team win, Gaither placed first as an individual.

Katie Givens is the Radford High School agriculture teacher and FFA advisor. She said there are 24 students in FFA this year and they also compete in Hippology, Vet Science, Floriculture, and Livestock Judging and hold regular meetings “where we do team building, leadership skills, and just have fun related to agriculture.”

More than 775,000 high school students are members of FFA, which was founded in 1917.
