The word “dynasty” was used last season when Auburn High School won its third straight Class 1 volleyball. Now, it becomes “dynasty01” after the school won yet another championship Saturday at the Salem Civic Center.
The school entered this year with a 70-plus win streak, but Bland County said not so fast, handing the Eagles a loss in week number one. From there, Auburn had to battle to reach this week’s state finals including a district championship loss to Giles, but they rebounded with a regional win over the same Giles squad.
In the finals Saturday, the Eagles claimed a 25-13, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20 win over Rappahannock.
Auburn Coach Sherry Millirons told reporters after the game that the season had its speed bumps, but the team had grown since that Bland loss.
