Three student-athletes from Blacksburg High School have signed national letters of intent to further their sports careers at the collegiate level.
Megan Anderson, a swimmer, is headed to George Mason University. Also a swimmer, David Roethlisberger signed with Colorado Mesa University, and golfer Samantha Skinner committed to the College of William & Mary.
The trio signed during a ceremony last week at the school.
Anderson swims butterfly and individual medley and is a 4-year varsity team member of the Bruins’ swim and dive team. She played a significant role when the BHS girls’ swim and dive team won the 2021 Class 4 State Championship. She is a three-year state qualifier, scoring points in all of her events each year in state competition. She has been a part of the H2Okie Aquatic Swim Team since she was four years old and is a part of their national team.
Anderson plans to study kinesiology at George Mason University.
Roethlisberger has also been a member of the BHS swim team for the past four years and helped the Bruins to consecutive state championships in 2020 and 2021. While diving during the BHS season of his junior year, he won the state competition, set a new school record and has also competed on a national level while diving with the New River Diving Club.
Roethlisberger plans to study computer science at Colorado Mesa.
Skinner will continue her career at the College of William and Mary. She has been a part of the
Blacksburg golf team that won state championships the past two years.
Her junior and senior year, she made the all-state team and was named a member of the Roanoke
Valley Hall of Fame Team. Skinner placed seventh in the girls’sState tournament in 2021 and finished in ninth place in 2022 competing against the best girls in the state.
In addition to golf, she was a member of the varsity girls’ swim team her freshman and sophomore years, contributing to their state title in 2021. Skinner is an officer for the Blacksburg DECA, is president of the National Technical Honor Society and is a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.0 GPA. She plans to major in business at William & Mary.
