The thirteenth annual Winter Lights Festival, presented by Downtown Blacksburg, Inc., will take place on Friday, Dec. 2.
As a feature of the festival, the Department of Music at Virginia Tech will present TubaChristmas, a holiday transition since 2009. Tuba players wishing to participate should contact elantz@vt.edu.
The festivities will include a holiday gift market on College Avenue, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Lyric Theatre, and the tree lighting ceremony with the Blacksburg Children’s
Chorale, Mayor Leslie Hager-Smith, Santa and Mrs Claus, and WSLS 10. The TubaChristmas will begin on the Henderson Lawn stage across from the Lyric Theatre immediately following the tree lighting ceremony.
Festival goers can also vote for their favorite holiday tree and gingerbread house in Kent Square.
The evening will end with Blacksburg’s holiday parade, “Hometown Holidays,” down Main Street through the heart of downtown. The parade is sponsored by the Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department.
