Pitcher Kirsten Fleet led Auburn to another state title this past week, and Friday, she was named both the region player of year and pitcher of the year. Her coach, Tim Smoot, was named region coach of the year.
Fleet was joined on the region first-team by teammates Rachel Brotherton (second base) and Avery Zuckerwar (shortstop). Eastern Montgomery’s Mary Miller (pitcher) and Mack Hubbard (outfielder) were named second-team softball.
Miller and Hubbard were also named to all-Pioneer District first-team. Eastern Montgomery’s Alexis Artrip and Allison Bower were named Pioneer second-team.
Auburn placed three players on the first-team all-Region 1C boys’ soccer team. This included: Chase Sutphin, Sam Duncan and Andrew Tickle.
Eastern Montgomery was represented on the first team by Talen Bruce and Kelsey Greer. Their teammates, Jesse Boston, Osman Amaya and Zach Craighead were named to the second-team.
Eastern Montgomery’s Maddie Bruce was named both Pioneer District and Region C girls’ soccer player of the year. Her coach, Whitney Shaver, was the coach of the year.
Auburn and Eastern Montgomery dominated the all-Region C girls’ soccer team with 17 honorees.
First-teamers from Auburn included Stacy Lewis, Grace Harris, Kenleigh Smith, Katie Light, Logan Mundy and Kelsie Groseclose. Representing Eastern Montgomery were Bruce, Ajia Horne, Madeline Mirolli, Nadya Hubbard, Lilly Underwood, Hannah Blankenship, Olivia Boone and Logan Boone. Teammates, Lacy Davis, Meghan Kidwell and Jordan Hutchinson were named second-teamers.
Auburn’s Jared Lavergne was named player of the year in Region C for baseball, while his coach, Eric Altizer, was coach of the year. They were both honored for same spots by the Mt. Empire District.
Lavergne was joined on the first-team by pitcher Brody Hensel, third baseman Damien Boyd and outfielder Kenny Wade. Second-teamers included Auburn’s Michael Hale and Eastern Montgomery’s Kobe Phoenix.
