The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery County-Blacksburg completed its 77th year by installing new officers and directors for 2023-24 on Oct. 5 at Warm Hearth Village.
The major focus of Kiwanis is serving the children of the world one child one community at a time. The 2023-24 officers include: (pictured left to right) Secretary Don Linkous, Treasurer Jerry Jones, Past President Meghan Kuczmarski, President Tom Layne, President-elect Doug Butts, and Vice President Amy Webb who were installed by Past Lt Governor Sherry Charles. The club also installed new directors Jim Lyons, Jim Marchman, Dori Marriott, and Andrew Walker for two years, while Stephen Boyle, Mark Hanigan, George Mauney, and Sherry Shelley serve as directors for one more year.
New club members and sponsors include Charlene Flick, Dori Marriott (sponsored by Norm Marriott), Jean Hanigan (sponsored by Charlie Stallings, Jim Marchman (sponsored by George Mauney), and George Mauney (sponsored by Sandy Smith).
Three Kiwanians were awarded the Legion of Honor: Merv Timberlake and Emilie Broome for 35 years of service and Bob Gibson for 30 years.
Montgomery Co-Blacksburg Kiwanis meets every Thursday for lunch plus a program at Warm Hearth Village Center. If interested, please join us for lunch at 12:00 pm. We will hold a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Blacksburg United Methodist Church’s Whisner Building ($8 and no reservation needed). Also we hold a Brunswick stew sale in April at Price’s Fork Elementary School and a June Golf tournament.
