Page to share testimony during “NIL Playbook: Proposal to Protect Student Athletes’ Dealmaking Rights” hearing
RADFORD – Meredith Page, a member of the Radford University women’s volleyball team, joined two other NCAA Division I student-athletes and association president Charlie Baker in testimony before the United States House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee for a hearing titled “NIL Playbook: Proposal to Protect Student Athletes’ Dealmaking Rights” on Thursday, Jan. 18 in Washington, D.C.
Page, a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., is an outside hitter who has played in 12 career matches for the Highlanders. She was sidelined during the 2023 season with an injury and redshirted to retain her junior eligibility for fall 2024. Page is working towards a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Management.
Page is in her second year as the president of Radford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a leadership group of student-athletes representing all 16 sports at Radford University. SAAC serves as a conduit of communication among student-athletes, coaches and athletic administrators on issues to improve the student-athlete experience and promote growth and education through sports participation.
Joining Page in Thursday’s testimony was Baker, Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Jeff Jackson, Dr. Victoria Jackson, Associate Clinical Professor of History at Arizona State University, UCLA reserve quarterback Chase Griffin and Michigan softball catcher Keke Tholl.
Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Gus Bilirakis (R-Florida) led Thursday’s hearing. Bilirakis has proposed the FAIR College Sports Act, which seeks to govern how student-athletes receive compensation for Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals.
