Volunteer Montgomery is seeking two outstanding seniors in Montgomery County planning to seek an education in the field of Human Services or a Human Medical career to be the recipients of scholarship money equaling $1,000 for each student.
The cutoff date for submitted applications is April 12, 2024, by 5 p.m., after which two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to selected outstanding students in the Montgomery County school system.
According to information shared by Volunteer Montgomery’s Coordinator Mandy Hayes, students should apply if they are planning to pursue higher education studies in one of the following areas of studies or of similar pursuits: Art Therapy, Behavioral Sciences, Child Development, Child and Family Studies/Services, Cognitive Sciences, Counseling (Mental Health, Vocational, Pastoral, etc.), Early Childhood Development Gerontology, Health and Human Services, Health Administration, Human Development, Human Services, Marriage and Family Therapy, Music Therapy, Nursing, Pharmacy, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Psychology, Public Health, Rehabilitation Counseling, School Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Special Education, Speech Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Urban Studies, and Vocational Rehabilitation.
All applications must include a current official transcript, a minimum of two letters of reference, and a typed letter addressing current volunteer activities, goals, and plans for a career in the Human Services or Human Medical fields, according to the application which can be found at www.montva.com. In addition to the website, additional information can be accessed through the student’s guidance counselors or by contacting Volunteer Montgomery at volunteermontgomery@montgomerycountyva.gov.
ACCE students may also apply for this scholarship, and if a student is chosen who is participating in this program, an alternate form of payment will be provided.
Applications must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on April 12 by mail or email to volunteermontgomery@montgomerycountyva.gov, and marked ATTN: SCHOLARSHIP FUND. Applications timestamped after the 5 p.m. deadline will not be considered for the scholarship. The Advisory Council will make the final decision on awards.
