Supporting those programs, Ernie Wade, representing the Kiwanis Club of Christiansburg presented Tony Deibler, principal of Christiansburg High School, Oliver Lewis, principal of Christiansburg Primary School and Lori Comer, principal of Belview Elementary School with Walmart gift cards in the amount of $550 each.

The Kiwanis Club funds the cards in the amount of $500 each and Walmart adds $50.

The two programs were established with the schools and Walmart several years ago to provide support for children who need clothing and/or supplies, but do not have the money to purchase them.

School personnel administer the programs, determine the needs and make the purchases from Walmart.

Once the funds on the cards are used, the school notifies the Kiwanis Club, which replenishes the cards.

“Funds for these programs are raised by various Kiwanis fund-raising efforts with the Wilderness Trail Festival being the major source of income,” Wade wrote in an announcement of the card presentation.

“One hundred percent of all income taken in from fund raisers go back into the community, with most going to serving the needs of the children in the Christiansburg area.”
