Mountain Lake Biological Station open house welcomes the public to get their feet wet, today

Mountain Lake Biological Station, a University of Virginia field station (240 Salt Pond Road) in Pembroke, VA, will hold its annual open house today, Saturday, July 20 from 2 – 5 p.m.

This family-friendly event offers the opportunity to meet MLBS scientists and artists, explore historic facilities, and learn first-hand about Station research.

The public is invited to get up close and personal with a variety of organisms, visit open labs and art studios, get their feet wet in the pond, make arts and crafts, participate in a variety of hands-on activities, take tours of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) tower site, and more.

MLBS is a diverse community of scientists, instructors, research interns, students, and artists from around the world who conduct research, take field-based courses, and create art on top of beautiful Salt Pond Mountain.

The biological station is adjoined by the Jefferson National Forest, the Mountain Lake Wilderness, and the Mountain Lake Lodge and Conservancy.
