Ruth Smith Hurt, age 87, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
She was born in Montgomery County on April 14, 1929 to the late John and Mamie Surface Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lance “Doc” Hurt, four brothers and a sister.
She was a member of the Sunnyside Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Ray Marshall, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; son, Danny Ray Hurt, of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Brian Harris, Angela Shockley, Wes Shockley and Jennifer Phillips; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Akers and Faye Price; brothers, Larry Smith, Wayne Smith, Curtis Smith and John Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the Sunnyside Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery.
