Montgomery County Public Schools’ Seniors of the Month

Charles Devin Durham is the Auburn High School senior of the month. He is a member of the National Honors Society, volunteers at a local nursing home and was the Outstanding Foreign Language Student of the Month. Charles plans to attend the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech.
Isaak Haralampos Halkidis is the Blacksburg High School senior of the month. He is a member of the varsity football, indoor track and baseball teams, a Virginia Boys State nominee and a volunteer at Kipps Elementary. Isaak plans to study business and finance at the Virginia Military Institute.
Jared Brian Simpkins is the Christiansburg High School senior of the month. He is a member of the National Honors Society, is in a church youth group and was a recipient of the basketball coach’s award. Jared plans on attending a four-year university and then pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery.
Brooke Nicole Smith is the Eastern Montgomery High School senior of the month. She is the president of the Environmental Science Club, a varsity basketball and cross country team member and a recipient of the George Eastman Young Leaders award. Brooke is planning to attend New River Community College for two years and then transfer to Virginia Tech.

A senior from each Montgomery County High School was recognized as the senior of the month at the Jan. 3 school board meeting.

Each student is chosen by the principal at their respective high school to be recognized at the first board meeting of the month.

Superintendent Dr. Mark Miear and School Board Chair Gunin Kiran (District A) present the students with a certificate of their achievement, followed by a photo with the student and their guest(s).
