H2OKIES conclude record setting weekend

Multiple H2Okies set personal bests in their final swims of the season at the Virginia Tech Invitation on Sunday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

Freshmen Nick Schwegel, Colin Murphy, Caroline DeJager and Jessica Beattie were among the rookies that set new PRs while senior Carolina Buscaglia, sophomore Nick Olson and sophomore Chris Outlaw also swam their fastest times of the season and new PRs.

Next up for the H2Okies will be the ACC Championships in Atlanta. The women will compete first from Feb. 13-16 before the men hit the pool at the conference championship from Feb. 27 to March 2.

Swims of the Day:

Buscaglia placed first in the 100 free relay finals with a season-best time of 50.77, it was also the final swim of her career as an H2Okies.

The men’s 200 medley A relay swam a 1:27.26 in a time trial that clinched a top eight seed time entering the ACC Championships.

Yesterday, the H2Okies’ A relay in the men’s 400 free relay also clinched a top eight spot at ACCs with a time trial time of 2:56.94.

Other Notable Swims:

The 100 free prelims saw freshman Sydney Kirsch swim a 51.20, a new personal best.

Senior Zach Switzer registered a B cut time and a season-best 55.38 in the 100 breast

Freshman Chloe Hicks registered a B cut time with a personal best time of 1:56.58 in the 200 back.

In the mile, Murphy set a new PR with a time of 15:40.36.

Schwegel and Jessica Beattie set new PRs in the 400 IM with Beattie clocking in at 4:28.50 and Schwegel posting a 3:57.39.

In the prelims of the 100 breast, DeJager swam a 1:03.55 to set a new career best.
