Adam McPeak & Mountain Thunder and Crooked Road Ramblers to perform at NRCC tonight

Adam McPeak & Mountain Thunder will perform tonight at NRCC and have appeared on public television’s “Song of the Mountains.”

The music of Adam McPeak & Mountain Thunder and Crooked Road Ramblers will be featured during New River Community College’s Fiddle, Banjo and Dance Club jamboree tonight. The music will begin at 6 p.m. in 117 Edwards Hall at NRCC in Dublin.

Adam McPeak & Mountain Thunder are from Virginia and the group is composed primarily of young bluegrass musicians, with mandolin player Adam at the helm. Mike McPeak, Adam’s father, plays guitar and sings lead and harmony vocals.

Lindsey Jackson sings lead and harmony vocals. David Chrisley plays bass and sings harmony vocals, and his father Steve Chrisley plays banjo.

The group began playing at fiddler’s conventions, then went on to play their own shows and participate in competitions. They placed 9th and 10th at Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America National Band Championship events in Nashville. They have also appeared on public television’s “Song of the Mountains.” The band is a Crooked Road affiliate and has signed with the Kindred Records.

The Crooked Road Ramblers is an old-time band from southwest Virginia. They have played at the Carter Family Fold, the Wayne Henderson Festival, Houstonfest and at many other venues and events across Virginia and North Carolina.

The Crooked Road Ramblers were named the old-time instrumental group of the year at the 2014 Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising.

They were named the old-time instrumental group of the year at the 2014 Blue Ridge Acoustic Uprising. Band members are Kilby Spencer, fiddle; Peco Watson, banjo; John Perry, guitar; Donald Hill, guitar and vocals; Karen Carr, bass and vocals; and Wayne Dye, mandolin and vocals.

The doors open at 5 p.m. for the show. There is no charge for admission; however, donations will be accepted to help pay travel expenses for the musicians. The jamborees are held the second Saturday of each month through April at NRCC, a Crooked Road affiliated venue.
