Harriet Gwendolyn Dodson of Blacksburg passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at her home. Gwen was born Dec. 18, 1920 to Edward and Eudora Dixon Jones.
Gwen and her husband of nearly 75 years, Grover Stanton Dodson, began their life together in Norfolk, eventually settling into their Virginia Beach home where they lived nearly 52 years.
In 2014, the couple relocated to Blacksburg. A gifted painter, Gwen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was an active member of Azalea Baptist Church in Norfolk for over 50 years. She is survived by her husband; one brother; four sons and two daughters-in-law; six grandchildren and their spouses; and 14 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by one daughter-in-law; three sisters and three brothers.
A graveside service will be held Feb. 11, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Princess Anne Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
